Please give a warm welcome to A Life Sustained sponsor CaseyDeeArt!
Casey makes modern art prints and paintings. In her words:
My name is Casey and I am the creator behind CaseyDeeArt. About 8 months ago, I followed my heart to Reno, NV from Columbus, MS to be with my boyfriend, Alan, and start a new adventure.
I received my Bachelor of Architecture in 2008 at Mississippi State University and have recently landed a job with a firm in California close to Lake Tahoe (about 40 minutes from Reno) doing residential architecture. Before landing this job, I also worked in firms in New York City and my home town of Columbus, MS, as well as a short contract position here in Reno. Currently, I am pursuing my architecture license, which involves taking a series of seven exams following a period of internship--my internship period is complete and I just have 3 exams to go!
Shortly after moving to Reno, I started my Etsy site, CaseyDeeArt. At first, it was a way to get my artwork "out there" (something my mother has always been after me to do). I thought it would be fun to maybe make a few bucks while searching for a job here, although I had no idea just how much fun it would be. The last few months have been so busy and creative!
I am so happy to be in this new place--I love the West! And I feel blessed every day to come home to my wonderful boyfriend and crazy dog, Scout. When I am not busy with my career, I love to paint and draw, go to early morning breakfasts with my boyfriend to our favorite diner, take bike rides around the neighborhood, hang out with our new friends, and try (in vain) to be the pack leader when we take Scout for walks.
Tell us about your journey to becoming an artist.
My creative journey began long before I can even remember. I have always had an interest in art and always have some sort of project going on. From the time that I was very young, I loved drawing and painting (and often I would get bored in school and create intricate collages filled with my daily doodles). I was encouraged by my parents and grandmother and a few great teachers to continue creating and was taught at a very young age that doing so was important.
What inspires you?
My preferred medium is paint on canvas, but I also love to sketch and draw when I don't have the time to devote to a painting. My inspiration stems mostly from nature--flowers and trees and organic forms. I am very fascinated by detailed designs made of smaller, simpler forms.
Tell us about your favorite item in your shop and describe your process in creating it.
My favorite piece in my shop is my "Organic Sketch" print. "Sound" is a close second. For my prints, I usually start with a drawing from my sketchbook and either digitally alter or watercolor it. For my paintings, it is usually a much more organic process where I obsess over a design mentally, then when I can barely stand it, I sketch the design onto a canvas and start painting. It is so rewarding when the colors and designs in my mind come together on the canvas.
