First Harvest

Although they were almost a month early, we had our first sweet taste of asparagus spears last night. Steamed for a short four minutes and dressed with just a bit of butter and salt, they tasted like the light of spring. A seasonal treasure.

  3. Asparagus from the grocery store is no comparison to fresh from the garden! I NEED a garden! Can you plant asparagus in the fall? By then I should have a garden!

  4. It's amazing how the plants are even confused with the mild winter we had here! Yum... looks like you enjoyed every last taste! :)

  6. You didn't save me any? :) We love asparagus! How long ago did you plant it? And did you plant it in trenches? We'd like to 'think ahead' and plant this one year since I know it takes time before getting a harvest, but it never seems to happen.

    1. We planted crowns 3 or 4 years ago and last year was the first taste that we had. Talk about delayed gratification! I sort-of did the trench thing, but it was really only half an effort. ;)

  7. Yum! We had asparagus out of my mom-in-law's garden a couple weeks ago right before it frosted. Nothing beats chewing on a stalk.
